When people try to change their gambling behaviour it doesn’t always work the first time and that’s ok.

Having a lapse (a one-off gambling episode) or a relapse (returning to your usual patterns of gambling) are a normal part of the change process and it doesn’t mean you’re back where you started.

Because you have already laid the groundwork for changing your behaviour, it can be easier to get back into your healthy habits the second time around.

If you do relapse, there are some simple steps you can take:

Pause

  • Take a step away from the situation.

Reflect

  • Take time to learn about yourself and your triggers.

Prepare

  • Learn and put into place strategies to help you the next time triggers occur.

Remember

  • Be kind to yourself and reach out for support if you need it.
