Practitioners Guide to Services

Family and domestic violence powerfully and negatively affects peoples' lives.  When combined with harmful gambling behaviour, the impacts are often even worse.

As practitioners in either area it is important to recognise that your client may be experiencing the impacts of both issues, though one of the issues may remain hidden.

In South Australia, the Office for Women and the Office for Problem Gambling have partnered to draw attention to this harmful combination. You don't have to be an expert in both. The key is to be able to offer a holistic response for families and individuals impacted by harmful gambling and family and domestic violence.

Practitioners need to be aware of the issues, to be able to identify if there is an accompanying gambling or violence issue and to co-work or refer clients to other services.

There are many free and confidential statewide, regional and targeted population services in both sectors that are willing to co-work with clients and take referrals. See below for a comprehensive list of services:
