GPs, Nurses and Clinicians General Practice Problem Gambling Resource Kit
Statistically in Australia, the prevalence of problem gambling exceeds that of stroke and coronary heart disease, and is comparable with the estimated prevalence of type 2 diabetes1. General practice in South Australia is well placed to screen for problem gambling. The General Practice Problem Gambling Resource Kit aims to assist General Practitioners (GPs), Practice Nurses and Mental Health Clinicians to ASK, ASSESS, TREAT or REFER clients or patients that present with a gambling problem. The Kit has been designed for use by general practice: GPs, Practice Nurses and Mental Health Clinicians. The Kit aims to increase the awareness of problem gambling, better identify problem gambling and provide or arrange appropriate treatment. ASK, ASSESS, TREAT or REFER ASK the question:2 "Have you ever had an issue with your gambling?" - OR - "Has anyone in your family ever had an issue with gambling?" If the patient or client answers yes - ASSESS, TREAT or REFER - either within general practice or externally to a Gambling Help Service. HOW TO ACCESS THE KIT Download the Kit or the detailed information below. To obtain a hard copy Kit contact your local GP Division or Network, or contact the Office for Problem Gambling on 8207 0716 (Kits are only available to GPs, general practice and their Divisions or Networks).
